How the Application Process Works

The IEC process is pool-based, not first-come-first-served.

Step 1: Create an Online Profile

You start by creating an account with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and submitting an IEC profile. You will: Select your country Choose the IEC category (Working Holiday, etc.) Enter the IEC pool

Step 2: Enter the Pool & Wait for an Invitation

Candidates are placed into a pool and invitations are issued randomly during regular draws. Important notes: Being in the pool does not guarantee selection Some countries have high demand and limited spots Pools usually stay open for several months

Step 3: Receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA)

If selected, you will receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA). You then have: A limited time to accept the invitation Additional time to submit a full application

Step 4: Submit Your Work Permit Application

At this stage, you will: Complete application forms Upload required documents (passport, police certificate, resume, etc.) Pay application and work permit fees Provide biometrics (fingerprints and photo), if required

Step 5: Receive the Port of Entry (POE) Letter

If approved, you will receive a Port of Entry Letter of Introduction. Important: This is not your work permit You must present this letter when you arrive in Canada The work permit is issued by a border officer upon entry
